All about us (the good things anyway)

We are a small family firm founded by the late Peter Child. For over 35 years we have specialised in helping woodturners enjoy their hobby. We pride ourselves on the quality of advice freely given to all turners - especially beginners.

We have a mail order supply business selling all kinds of woodturning equipment materials and hardware.

We have a retail shop at Little Yeldham

We design and make woodturning lathes, tools, chucks and accessories

We manufacture PYROGRAPHY equipment for burning pictures on wood

We give free demonstrations on woodturning 1st and 3rd Saturdays in every month

Christopher Child (second son) offers tuition based on Peter's original 2 day course. He is known for his many magazine articles on woodturning.

About this website

This website, as you have guessed, is not a slick commercial one but a humble homespun affair cobbled up in evenings and weekends. If some pages are out of date I am sorry but it is just that the shop has to take priority. I have tried to make it as simple as possible, with no fancy effects, to give you quicker download. It was written in raw HTML using a text editor on an Acorn computer. Acorn computers were British made with a British operating system (not Windows) running on a British inspired microprocessor (StrongARM now made by Intel). If you want to know more try this link www.riscos.org If you have sworn at your PC lately you might just consider the alternative virus-proof incorruptible OS. I reckon I am two or three times more productive on RiscOS than on Windows especially on DTP, colour advertisements etc.

I learned HTML using Joe Barta's excellent web tutor, the basic version of which you can download free from www.pagetutor.com It is really useful to learn even a few elementary HTML tags and it gives you the ability to fine tune your website. It is so easy! I never even considered using Frontpage or similar programs.
